Effects of CNS depressant drugs on mouse encephalomyelitis virus.

چکیده
Previous work (Pearson, 1950; Pearson et al., 1952; and Visser et al., 1952) showed that various compounds may inhibit Theiler's GDVII strain of mouse encephalomyelitis virs in vitro; none tested so far was effective in vivo. It was of interest to determine if compounds capable of depressing centrl nervous stem activity would also repress virl activity. The present report gives the results of trials with various agents tested, mostly in vitro.

Evaluation of analgesic, anti-inflammatory and CNS depressant activities of methanolic extract of Lawsonia inermis barks in mice
Objectives: The study was carried out to assess the analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and CNS depressant activity of the methanolic extract of the Lawsonia inermis barks(MELIB). Materials and Methods: Anti-inflammatory effects of MEBLI were studied using carrageenan-induced inflammatory method at the dose of 300 and 500 mg/kg b.wt., p.o. Analgesic activity was measured using acetic acid-induced wr...
متن کاملAnalgesic, CNS Depressant and Anthelmintic Activity of Sarcostemma viminale
Various extracts of Sarcostemma viminale were screened for central analgesic activity by hot plate test, peripheral analgesic activity by acetic acid-induced writhings, CNS depressant activity by pentobarbitone-induced sleep and locomotor activity testing methods and anthelmintic activity on the earthworms Pheretima posthuma . Results showed that petroleum ether and ethyl acetate extracts h...
متن کاملThe central nervous system inflammatory response to neurotropic virus infection is peroxynitrite dependent.
We have recently demonstrated that increased blood-CNS barrier permeability and CNS inflammation in a conventional mouse model of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis are dependent upon the production of peroxynitrite (ONOO(-)), a product of the free radicals NO* and superoxide (O2*(-)). To determine whether this is a reflection of the physiological contribution of ONOO(-) to an immune respo...
متن کاملThe Susceptibility of the Hamster to Mouse Encephalomyelitis Virus
The OT strain of mouse encephalomyelitis virus induces an inapparent infection in suckling hamsters associated with lesions of the central nervous system and skeletal muscles. The virus increases in pathogenicity after alternating mouse-hamster transfers and then induces both paralysis and encephalitis. Pathogenicity is lost through serial hamster passages but is restored by a single mouse tran...
متن کاملCentral nervous system depressant effects of the ethanolic extract of Cymbidium aloifolium (L.)
The ethanolic leaf extract of Cymbidium aloifolium (L.) was intended to evaluate the effect on the central nervous system (CNS) using a number of neuropharmacological experimental models in mice. The extract, at the dose of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight, were shown to have CNS depressant activity by the reduction of locomotor and exploratory activities in the open field and hole cross tests. Th...
